Hollick-Kenyon is located in the Pilot Sound Area Structure Plan in the northeast portion of the city within a 15 minute commute to the Edmonton Garrison. The adjacent Hollick-Kenyon neighbourhood represented an eastward extension of residential development within Pilot Sound when it was approved in the early 1990s. Hollick-Kenyon is bounded by 167 Avenue, 59A Street, 153 Avenue and 50 Street.
Real estate construction in Hollick Kenyon began in the early 1990s with the dominant housing form is currently detached houses, a few duplex homes and a couple of condominiums. Hollick-Kenyon was planned to include a range of housing types to ensure a supply of affordable housing options, and to generate a sufficient population to ensure efficient and economic use of basic local services. A large stormwater lake located in the southwestern quadrant of Hollick Kenyon provides home owners with access to open space.
Like all communities within the Pilot Sound area, Hollick-Kenyon is named after a famous aviator, Herbert “Bertie” Hollick-Kenyon, who piloted flights over the Antarctic as part of the first mapping of that territory. Hollick-Kenyon was born in England and joined the Royal Flying Corps after serving in WWI. After decades of exploration and search and rescue missions, He joined Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1942, where he worked until his retirement in 1962. In 1973, Hollick-Kenyon was named to Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame.
