About Balwin Edmonton

Located north of the Highlands Area, Balwin is a mature community located in the Northmount Area between 127 Avenue, 132 Avenue, Delwood and Killarney in real estate zone 02, northeast Edmonton. Balwin is within close proximity to excellent schools, park facilities, Londonderry Mall, Yellowhead Trail, Manning Freeway and the Canadian Armed Forces Base, CFB Garrison. Today, Balwin offers many real estate choices from single-family detached bi-level style houses to older bungalows to new modern infill homes and new duplexes. Residential properties in Balwin were primarily built 1946-1970, with some houses constructed prior to the end of second World War.


Balwin area was originally part of North Edmonton and became part of Edmonton in 1912, known as Packingtown early in the turn of the last century because most of the families who lived in Balwin at that time worked at the nearby meat packing plants. The name Balwin is derived from a combination of the names of two early property owners, Frank Ball, and Luke Winterburn.
