About Bergman Edmonton

Bergman is a mature community in northeast Edmonton immediately to the north of the old Town of Beverly, where rich coal seams were discovered and coal mining spurred development. It is named for Gustav C. Bergman who was elected mayor of Beverly in the first municipal election after Beverly incorporated as a town in 1914. Residential real estate development in Bergman is created from two distinct periods of construction; one very grid-like pattern and the other with a curved linear street pattern.


In the decade leading up to amalgamation, the southern part of Bergman shared in the residential housing construction boom experienced by the Town of Beverly. Much of south Bergman was developed, but municipal services were not extended to the northern part of the community until a major subdivision re-plot was initiated in 1974. As a result of re-subdivision, many of the houses in Bergan Edmonton are built during the 1980s.
