Bonnie Doon - South East Edmonton Real Estate Listings
Bonnie Doon is a historic part of Edmonton's history located in East, Southeast Edmonton between Idylwylde and Strathearn. In 1913, an extension of a streetcar line made real estate development in Bonnie Doon more attractive. This Ottewell area community takes its name from the Scottish for pleasant, rolling countryside, and was named in 1912 after Canadian-born Premier Alexander Cameron Rutherford, who was of Scottish descent and owned a portion of the land east of Mill Creek.
Early residents took advantage of the river valley views by constructing their houses next to the Mill Creek Ravine and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River. Today, a large portion of Bonnie Doon homes are no longer just 1950s bungalows and have been replaced with newer modern two-story infill houses and newer duplexes. Residential real estate in Bonnie Doon was constructed by some of the highest qualified builders in Alberta and on average is more expensive per square foot than other areas of Edmonton with house prices reaching into the millions.
