Summary of Central Edmonton Real Estate

Central Edmonton is the most urban, dense, and oldest area of the city. It is situated high above the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Real estate in Central Edmonton is divided into a few categories.


The communities to the east of the downtown core are the least expensive in central Edmonton. These older character houses are slowly being replaced with more modern infill properties. Chinatown and Little Italy are also located here. The downtown core consists of main high-rises and commercial buildings. There is currently a new environmental undertaking for residential real estate in the Blatchford area near the Ice District. The most expensive real estate in Central Edmonton is Riverdale, once a popular site with early residents of the city and had both a lumbermill and brickyard with fuel supplied by coal mined from nearby cliffs in the river valley.
