Cumberland is another family-focused community in north Edmonton Palisades district between Pembina, New Castle Area, and the Castle Downs Area. Only a few minutes to the New Castle Area and Canadian Armed forces Base Garrison, Cumberland is a great place to purchase real estate for our military members. It is bounded by 153 Avenue west of 127 Street. Houses in Cumberland are very similar to the houses in both Oxford and Carlton, two-story homes ranging from starter houses to move-up homes built in the early 2000s encompassing the community lake and park. The name Cumberland is from the Cumberland House which was the first Hudson’s Bay Company inland trading post was built by Samuel Hearne and named to honor the first governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company, Prince Rupert, Duke of Cumberland. Cumberland Edmonton is a newer community in north Edmonton, a ten-minute commute to the Canadian Force Base Edmonton Garrison making it a popular choice for re-sale for our DND members. Cumberland’s name is based on the theme within the Palisades area of adopting names that refer to early trading posts and forts. Cumberland House was the first Hudson’s Bay Company inland trading post. Homes for sale in Cumberland are focused on young families and offer starter homes and townhouse Condos. About a third of Cumberland's residential real estate backs onto a walking trail, several of which have walkout basements. The adjoining communities of Hudson and Oxford have similar property styles.
