Glenora & Glenora - West Edmonton Real Estate Listings

Glenora is in the sole Edmonton real estate zone 11 near Westmount Areas. It is an upscale luxury community in west-central Edmonton minutes from the downtown core bisected by Stony Plain Road. Glenora is one of our municipalities most popular places to live and is highly sought after by elite buyers. Many of these west Edmonton luxury houses offer breathtaking views especially on St. Goerges, Wellington, Tweedsmuir crescents and Connaught Drive.


Glenora Edmonton is best known for the Royal Alberta Museum and MacKinnon Ravine Park. It is one of our most enticing and oldest communities with an interesting history, originally part of a river lot farm homesteaded by Malcolm Groat, the namesake of Groat Road. In 1909, there was an agreement with the City to build a bridge, across the ravine to extend streetcar service to the Glenora area, thus the Carruthers bridge finished in 1910 now carries 102 Avenue across the ravine.


In 1913, there was a real estate crash in Edmonton, but the local elite still wanted to live close to the governor's mansion in Glenora, and near the view of the river valley and with good connections to the streetcar system. To protect the standards maintained in this community, there were restrictions to homeowners - no house costing less than $3,500 could be built in Glenora, resulting in a huge influx of professionals moving into the city looking for somewhere to build their family homes.


Today, Glenora is still a prime real estate location, close to the city core, Royal Alberta Museum, the historical lieutenant generals Government House and the meritorious Alexander Circle Park. Recently several of the original houses in Glenora have been replaced with beautiful architecturally designed stand-alone luxury houses.
