About Glenora Edmonton

Glenora Edmonton is a high demand area in West-Central Edmonton and forms part of the Glenora -Crestwood area and sole real estate zone 11. Glenora is one of Edmonton’s most enticing and oldest communities with an interesting history, originally part of a river lot farm homesteaded by Malcolm Groat, the namesake of Groat Road. In 1909, there was an agreement with the City to build a bridge across the ravine in exchange for the City guaranteeing to extend streetcar service to the Glenora area, thus the Carruthers bridge, finished in 1910 now carries 102 Avenue across the ravine. The 1913, there was a real estate crash in Edmonton, but the local elite still wanted to live close to the governor's mansion in Glenora, and near the view of the river valley and with good connections to the streetcar system. To protect the standards maintained in the neighborhood, there were restrictions to home owners - no house costing less than $3,500 could be built in Glenora, resulting in a huge influx of professionals moving into the city looking for somewhere to build their family homes.

Real Estate dwellings in Glenora are constructed prior to the 1970s and most of these luxury houses today are being enjoyed by their current home owners. The average price on a single family detached home in Glenora is about one million dollars. There is only one condominium building in Glenora - Crescent Place Glenora (1969) High rise at 13910 Stony Plain Road. Today, Glenora is still a prime real estate location, close to the city core, Royal Alberta Museum, the historical lieutenant generals Government House and the meritorious Alexander Circle Park.
