Highlands Houses

Highlands is most famous for its historical houses along Ada Boulevard which overlook the River Valley and is one of the most popular communities in northeast Edmonton. Real estate prices in Highlands range vastly in price depending on condition and proximately to Ada Boulevard. This part of the city has no relevance to the average price per square foot. Highlands is located between Newton and Bellevue, north of 50 Street, bisected by 112 Avenue, bounded by 118 Avenue and Ada Boulevard in real estate zone 09. It is a very unique neighborhood, annexed to the city in 1912, named in a contest offering a 50-dollar prize. In 1911, real estate developers McGrath and Holgate built their mansions on Ada Boulevard which was named after McGrath's wife. Other Highlands luxury homeowners also enjoy spectacular views of the North Saskatchewan River Valley. With the exception of commercial and apartment developments along 118 Avenue and in a few scattered locations, Highlands Edmonton has remained an area of detached family houses. It also contains many significant heritage resources. The locally initiated Highlands Historical Foundation was established in 1988 to increase awareness about and initiate the preservation of heritage resources within the district.
