About Oliver Edmonton

Oliver, an older inner city neighborhood is located immediately west of downtown in Central Edmonton, best known for Oliver Square which is a convenient shopping center with several restaurants and ample parking. By the standards of 100 years ago, the area was known as Edmonton’s West End. It was only during the 1950s that the area was named after pioneer citizen Frank Oliver. Real Estate development in Oliver began during the 1880s, prior to World War I, with infill being complete by the 1930s. when several institutional structures were built. The General Hospital and the original Misericordia Hospital were joined by numerous churches, several schools, and a cloister. The southern and western portions of Oliver together formed one of Edmonton’s more fashionable residential areas, with many large luxury houses. Smaller, less ornate houses were built on infill sites, primarily in the northern portion of Oliver. Over time, this community has undergone many changes, yet still today, the Oliver area is still one of Edmonton's hottest communities. It is most popular with a younger generation offering the perks of downtown living, our river valleys, and quick convenient access to education facilities including N.A.I.T. and the University of Alberta. Oliver Edmonton only has a few detached houses left and if you are lucky enough to find one, grab it while you can!
