About Ottewell Edmonton

Ottewell is located in the east-south-central part of South Edmonton in the Ottewell Area, between Fulton Place and Holyrood. It is bounded by 50 Street, 75 Street, 90 Avenue, and 98 Avenue. Houses in Ottewell Edmonton are mainly mature bungalow style houses built in the 1960s and 1950s, many featuring in-laws and legal basement suites. Ottewell offers six religious assemblies, seven schools, and several parks, sports fields, and facilities and is popular among the younger generation. Retail stores nearby are located in Bonnie Doon and Capilano Malls. Otewell was once known as East Glenora and Braemar but was renamed after active grain farmers who were the Ottewell family who later opened the Ottewell Coal Company and a flour mill. Ottewell Edmonton is one of the largest and favourite communities in central east Edmonton between Holyrood, Idylwylde and Fulton Place. The area is named for the Ottewell family, who were among the first settlers south of the river in the 1880s and whose house is now on display in Fort Edmonton Park. Places of worship in this community include the Christian Reformed, United, St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic and Braemar Baptist Churches. Real estate in Ottewell is a mix of starter homes, middle-class properties, move up houses and luxury homes. Garden City Manor and Shalimar Plaza are the only condos in Ottewell Edmonton.
