About Pleasantview Edmonton

Pleasantview is south of Allendale, next to the Strathcona Junction bounded by 111 Street, 51 Avenue, west of Calgary Trail in the Southgate area in real estate zone 15 in south-central Edmonton, minutes from the downtown core and the University of Alberta. Houses in Pleasantview, similar to its Lendrum Place neighbor, consists of the homes which were built for an elite and executive clientele. The majority of houses today are still the original bungalow style homes. There are a few which have been replaced with larger, more modern two-story luxury houses located throughout the community. Part of Pleasantview was a part of Edmonton since 1914, but the other had to wait until the end of World War II because of a debt owed for overseas service. Then it was subdivided and sold under the Veteran’s Land Act to returning veterans. Pleasantview was originally called Martin Estate, then renamed after its notable topographical feature. A portion of Pleasantview has been a part of South Edmonton since 1914; the remaining portion had to wait until the end of World War II before becoming part of the city. As partial repayment of a debt owed for overseas service, prairie farmland that is now western Pleasantview is located only a few minutes to the University of Alberta in south Edmonton and was subdivided into generous half- to full-acre lots and sold under the Veteran's Land Act to returning veterans. A unique feature of Pleasantview is its topography which contains one of south Edmonton most noticeable elevations, a hill from which the view is pleasant. Today, Pleasantview has a variety of other land uses, including a cemetery located in Canine Memorial Park at the centre. Until 1950, the community was known as Martin Estate, named after David Martin, then renamed in honor of the view achieved from its notable topographical feature. Pleasantview, located in real estate zone 15, is an executive district in the south Edmonton, close to Southgate Mall and LRT. Pleasantview Edmonton consists mainly of luxury style bungalows built between mid-1940's to mid-1960's. There are four condo complexes in Pleasantview -Charleswood, Chateau, Empire Gardens and Serenity Gardens. Most of the condominiums for sale in Pleasantview are walk-up condos.
