The Southgate Area, also known as the Greater University area in south Edmonton is comprised of seven communities. Allendale, Empire Park, Lansdowne, Lendrum Place, Malmo Plains, Parkallen and Pleasantview. The Southgate area is south of the main University campus, west of Gateway Boulevard near the Southgate LRT Station.


The majority of houses in the Southgate area were constructed in the 1950s and 1960s. This is one area of the city where detached single family homes are in a prime real estate location and still very affordable. For houses under $300,000, Allendale is the best bet. Houses under $400,000 can be found in Parkallen and Pleasantview. Today, many of the houses in the Southgate area are a mix of the original character homes and luxury style properties.
