About Strathearn Edmonton

Strathearn is an upper-scale community situated south of Cloverdale and east of the Mill Creek Ravine in the east part of South Edmonton. It is bounded by 85 Street, Conners Road, and Strathearn Drive. The original houses in Strathearn Edmonton were constructed in the 1940s and 1950s. Due to the location, many of the original houses in Strathearn and the Ottewell Area have been replaced with a commercial real estate site, apartment condominiums, and brand new infill and luxury properties with luxury home prices. Strathearn is only a few minutes from both the downtown core and the University of Alberta. Strathearn offers easy access to the river valley park system and provides commanding views of the valley from vantage points along Strathearn Drive and Strathearn Crescent. The name Strathearn likely came from Prince Arthur who was the first Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. Strathearn Edmonton is highly desirable in central east Edmonton near Holyrood in the Bonnie Doon area in south Edmonton. Two of the original landholders were J. McKernan, Edmonton's first telegraph operator, and W. Bird who built one of Edmonton's first water driven grain mills in Mill Creek. Donnell Road in Strathearn was named after another of the early landowners. Real estate in Strathearn consists of executive and luxury houses. A few of these luxury houses overlook the Cloverdale Valley. There are two condominiums which are Cedar House at 8814 95 street and Strathearn Place at 9510 85 street. Most of Strathearn remained undeveloped until the late 1940s and 1950s when the land was subdivided and housing and commercial structures were built.
